Reading is a big part of my life. I’ve loved reading for fun since I was a kid (though this fell off in high school and college… ha!)–always borrowing books from the library and entering the summer reading sweepstakes (i’ve always been a fan of free stuff, hehe). It wasn’t until late in my college career that I finally picked up a non-school book, and that book was… Crazy Rich Asians! That book single-handedly revived my love for reading. I loved the Asian characters and the whole storyline. I immediately downloaded the other two books in the Crazy Rich Asians Trilogy and devoured them just as quickly.
I’m happy to say that i’m an avid reader again. In 2020 when COVID was in full swing, I went on Goodreads for the first time–I was thrown into a new world! It was so exciting to see what my friends, role models, and favorite influencers were reading. I also like the rating and reviewing part of Goodreads, so I can better see what i’m getting myself into. In 2020, I read 52 books. In 2021, I read 59 books. In 2022, I read 60 books. In 2023, I plan to read 63 books! So, I wanted to share my list of page turners and unputdownables in case you are interested in reading and want some good reads.
Btw, you can follow me on Goodreads here!
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid: Everyone I know who reads this books LOVES it. It is such an easy read and the golden era of Hollywood with its glitz and glam pulls you right in. The journalistic approach is great and gives you background information but still leaves you wanting more. I loved the vividness of the characters and there are so many twists that I didn’t expect!
- Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover: I’ve been a fan of CoHo since I read Verity and It Ends with Us (see below… ha), but this might be my favorite book from her. I was rooting for Kenna and Ledger from the start but UGH! So many obstacles. I had the FEELS after reading this book and i’d recommend it to anyone who wants something different than your average romance… It’s a little heavier than the norm!
- Verity by Colleen Hoover: This is the probably the CREEPIEST book i’ve ever read (hahaha), but it’s so addicting! I remember reading this and I could NOT put it down. I loved the dual narratives and it just reminds you that everything you think you know… you don’t. The last chapter is even crazier–BUT there was recently a new chapter released to wrap up the story even more! I believe it’s only at Target, I haven’t had time to sit down there and read it yet, ha!
- It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover: This book broke my heart in the best ways, but also the worst ways!! Lily had so much strength, making the right choice in the most difficult time. I was so proud of her! The underlying message is super powerful and the story itself is raw and beautiful.
- Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reud: I grew up as an athlete (basketball, volleyball, track, golf), and my dad was actually my basketball coach, so I connected to this book SO MUCH. Though I was never as great as Carrie at any of the sports I played, I FELT her fierceness and her drive. It was inspiring! I also loved the relationship between Carrie and her dad, because I could see some of the same features in mine and my dad’s relationship. If you are competitive at all, you will love this book!
- The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: This twist got me SO MUCH! I remember reading this and I had to go back a few pages just to make sure I had everything right. The author’s writing is captivating and the short chapters kept me reading until after midnight. If you’re well versed in thrillers, you might guess the twist–but this was one of my first thriller reads and I definitely did not haha.
Thanks for reading and HAPPY READING! 8)
